PearlofPeople with Down Syndrome Foundation (PPDSF) was established on 24th February 2017 as a Non-Governmental Organization with Reg No.00NGO/0009063. (Prior to this time it existed from 2011 under the name Penny Aika Down Syndrome Foundation). PPDSF is a representative organization of Down Syndrome people in Tanzania Mainland.
I.VISION, MISSION, OBJECTIVES OF THE FOUNDATION
Vision statement: We envision an inclusive society where people with Down Syndrome are treated in such a way that their basic human rights and needs are sustained to improve their livelihood.
Mission Statement: The organization is committed to enhancing high-quality social-related services to people with Down syndrome through various coordinated approaches and engagement of different Stake-holders including the Government private sector. Civil society organizations and development partners through awareness creation, Advocacy and capacity building at different levels in the community.
Objectives: In Summary, being a VOICE for/of the Down Syndrome people in there: Basic Human Rights. The right to live like other people as some are hidden or perhaps killed, especially in the villages. Rights as Women, Men, Youth, and Children who are Down Syndrome. Rights in access to education at all levels, Vocational & Life-Skills, Health, Social Welfare, and Economic Empowerment.
Achievements: Partnership with the Ministry of Health [MoHCDGEC].Together, we will conduct a Research on ‘Situational Analysis of Down Syndrome People in Tanzania Mainland’ Funding would be solicited. The outcome of such an analysis would enable the MoHCGEC to conduct Early identification of children born with Down Syndrome at health facilities for early intervention and other medical services.
Another Memorandum of Understanding, yet to be signed, has been launched with the Ministry, Science &Technology.
